May Mental Health Month 2025
Celebrating May Mental Health Awareness Month 2025: Turning Awareness Into Action
Warm spring greetings from all of us at Black Mountain Counseling Center. As the days grow longer and the flowers bloom, May brings an opportunity to focus on something just as essential as physical health: our mental well-being.
Each May, we honor Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on the importance of mental wellness, reduce stigma around seeking support, and highlight the healing work happening right here in our community.
This year, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has given us a clear and powerful theme: "Turn Awareness Into Action." At Black Mountain Counseling Center (BMCC), we are proud to embody that mission. As the only licensed non-profit mental health agency in our region, our goal is to provide high-quality counseling services to anyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay.
In 2024 alone, BMCC served over 270 individuals through our offices in Black Mountain and Old Fort—and, in the wake of Hurricane Helene, even in temporary spaces like parking lots and pop-up clinics. More than half of our clients are uninsured, underinsured, or rely on Medicaid or Medicare. Our Client Assistance Program ensures that no one is turned away because of financial hardship.
This May, We Celebrate with Community Support
We’re thrilled to partner with local businesses that are helping us raise awareness—and critical funds—for mental health care throughout the month of May:
Dynamite Roasting Co.
Visit the Coffee Bar location and grab a bag of specialty Black Mountain Counseling Center Coffee! All profits from BMCC-branded coffee sold during May will go toward helping clients who lack insurance or face other financial barriers. My Father’s Pizza
Both are generously donating a portion of their sales during the first weekend of May to support mental health care access for all.
We know that many of our local businesses have faced tough times in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which is why our focus this year is not on the number of sponsors we have, but on the awareness we can raise. Together, we can help more of our neighbors know where to turn when they need support.
Will You Join Us?
The heart of BMCC’s mission is simple but powerful: mental health care for all. Your support—whether through buying a bag of coffee, enjoying a meal from a participating restaurant, or making a direct donation—makes that mission possible.
If you believe in access to mental health care regardless of someone’s income or insurance status, please consider making a gift this May. Every donation helps fund counseling sessions for those who would otherwise go without.
From all of us at Black Mountain Counseling Center, thank you for standing with us—and for standing up for mental health. Let’s turn awareness into action, together.
