The Center was founded as a private, nonprofit charitable organization in 2007 by counselors Ellen Begley and Bill Christian in response to the ever growing need for counseling services in their community. From that time forward, services have increased each year. In 2011 and 2012, the Center provided more than 1,100 and 1,300 hours of counseling, respectively, to children, adults, and couples.
Following the retirement of Bill Christian in 2012, LPCA Rose Wilkerson was added to the staff. This allowed for further expansion of counseling services. In 2013 and 2014, the Center provided more than 2,600 counseling sessions to the community.
Black Mountain Counseling Center also directly benefits the lower-income population of east Buncombe County by providing counseling services to clients who otherwise could not afford counseling. Find out more about how you can help us provide affordable counseling to those who need it most.
